| I am teaching my kids handoffs today for the 4x400m. What is the best way to teach them the handoff? |

all 4 x 400 can be visual changes, with outgoing runner receiving in left hand and swapping to right.
However, because 1st runner stays in lane, the first changeover could be a none visual change.
I assume that visual changes are used as the incoming runners speed is lower and therefore there really isn't a need to always be facing forward for acceleration.
I would practise both types.
Also important to get lining up through 2nd and 3rd changes right (keeping clear and working through traffic) |
